LG to supply integrated cockpit solution for Renault's New Trafic E-Tech Electric

The integrated cockpit solution from LG Electronics will go into Renault Group's New Trafic E-Tech Electric, the company said. LG described the vehicle as Renault's first mass-produced commercial vehicle built on a software-defined vehicle architecture, and said it received the International Van of the Year award.

The solution combines the instrument cluster and the infotainment system in a control framework LG said is designed for SDVs. LG said the combined setup presents driving and infotainment information more consistently across the vehicle's displays, and that simplifying components and optimizing the system helps automakers reduce production costs.

LG describes SDVs as using high-performance computing and a centralized software architecture to control multiple vehicle functions, where conventional vehicles spread control across dozens of electronic control units dedicated to areas such as the cockpit, driver assistance and powertrain. SDVs can also add new features and upgrade existing ones through over-the-air software updates, the company said.

The cluster portion of the solution provides driving information including vehicle speed, engine revolutions per minute and warning indicators. The infotainment system supports features such as navigation and media playback.

LG said Renault Group recognized it as an outstanding supplier in 2014, 2017 and 2020, and that the two companies developed an Android-based automotive infotainment system together in 2021. LG said it plans to expand partnerships with major global automakers in North America, Asia and other key markets. Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, said the company will continue to advance the core technologies and solutions needed to support the mobility industry's transition to SDVs.
