Durabook announces the R12
Durabook, the rugged mobile brand owned by Taiwan's Twinhead International Corporation, has announced the R12 Rugged Tablet, which it describes as an active edge AI platform. The company said in its announcement that the device is intended for defense, public safety and industrial teams working from vehicles or outdoors where connectivity is unreliable. The announcement was made in Taipei on 22 October.
The compute figures
The tablet runs on Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processor and provides 180 TOPS of integrated AI performance, which the company says can process data from cameras, sensors and connected systems on the device itself. An optional discrete GPU adds 232 TOPS, bringing combined AI compute to as much as 412 TOPS. Optional NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada graphics are also offered.
Screen and keyboard
The R12 carries a 12.2-inch DynaVue sunlight-readable display with brightness of up to 1,200 nits, fitted into a chassis the company says is smaller than current 11.6-inch market tablets. A detachable backlit keyboard lets users move between touch-based work and keyboard tasks without changing devices.
Field power and rugged ratings
Durabook says the R12 has a dual easy-removable battery design with optional hot-swappable high-capacity batteries, and battery life of up to 20 hours. It meets MIL-STD-810H, 6-foot drop and IP66 standards, MIL-STD-461G for electromagnetic compatibility, and ANSI/UL C1D2 certification for specified hazardous locations. The tablet is available for order now, the company said.
