Valens Semiconductor (NYSE: VLN) is working with onsemi on an integrated sensor for high-volume 3-megapixel automotive cameras, with cost reduction as a goal, the company said on Sept. 22, 2026. The two companies intend to give OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers a faster route to MIPI A-PHY.
Under the agreement, Valens will work with onsemi on the A-PHY offering, which the companies said can be integrated into onsemi's image sensors. The companies said the collaboration brings together complementary expertise in connectivity and automotive imaging, and that it strengthens the A-PHY ecosystem.
Yoram Salinger, chief executive of Valens, called the collaboration a milestone for the company, for MIPI A-PHY and for the automotive ecosystem. He said the integrated 3MP offering complements Valens' existing solutions and brings A-PHY to a wider range of use cases, and that working with onsemi, which he described as another supplier of A-PHY silicon, strengthens the ecosystem and gives automakers the supplier choice they expect from an industry standard. Ahmed Salem, vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Sensing Group at onsemi, said interest from OEM customers and partners indicates MIPI A-PHY is a business opportunity. He said customers want designs that are simpler without a loss of performance, and that the collaboration is meant to support a more streamlined camera architecture that uses fewer components.
The majority of automotive image sensors target the 1-3MP range, and the companies said a 3MP offering addresses both an established market and a growing upgrade opportunity as OEMs move to higher resolutions. MIPI A-PHY is described in the announcement as the automotive industry's first standard for high-speed sensor connectivity. Valens said it offers the first chipsets on the market to comply with the standard and was the first to achieve design wins with multiple OEMs.
