What TI announced
Texas Instruments said on Nov. 5 that it has added two devices to its industrial communication portfolio: the TICS100MOD, a multiprotocol communications system-on-module, and the TIOM2212, a dual-channel IO-Link master. The company said the devices are aimed at factory automation, robotics and Industrial Internet of Things systems.
The multiprotocol module
The TICS100MOD supports EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and Profinet on a single piece of hardware, and engineers can move between those protocols at boot time with a firmware update. TI described it as the industry's smallest fully featured, certified communications module of its kind. It is built on the company's AM2612 microcontroller and DP83826AI Ethernet physical layer, and carries two Arm Cortex-R5F cores plus external memory.
The IO-Link master
The TIOM2212 connects IO-Link devices to higher-level Industrial Ethernet networks through a single platform, sitting between sensors and actuators and the factory control system. TI said it includes analog integration and built-in protection features, and works with its Sitara industrial networking system-on-chip family and AM13Ex real-time microcontrollers through an integrated frame handler.
Availability and demonstrations
Preproduction quantities of the TIOM2212 are available now on TI.com, while the TICS100MOD is due to be available by year-end 2026. TI said it will show the module at electronica in Munich from Nov. 10 to 13, at its exhibit in Hall C4, booth 159.
