Thailand's first AI hyperscale data centre, at 20 megawatts

True IDC has opened an AI-focused facility in Thailand with more than 20 megawatts of power and liquid cooling ready for GPU workloads.

True Internet Data Center, the data centre and cloud arm of the Charoen Pokphand Group, has launched a facility it calls Thailand's first AI hyperscale data centre. The company says it carries more than 20 megawatts of power capacity, is built for high-performance and GPU workloads, and is designed to accept liquid cooling.

The engineering detail is the substance here. The centre uses a high-efficiency fan wall cooling system, ships with redundant backup systems meant to keep computing uninterrupted, and claims the best power usage effectiveness in the country, alongside a laboratory for testing new solutions. Power usage effectiveness is the ratio of total facility power to the power that reaches the computers, and it is only meaningful against a stated measurement method, which the release does not give.

What is and is not proven

The company's president, Thanasorn Jaidee, frames the facility as setting a benchmark for technology, engineering and sustainability. Suphachai Chearavanont, who runs CP Group, says it marks Thailand's entry into what he calls the giga era and argues that digital infrastructure is a mechanism for the new economy. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, secretary general of the Board of Investment, calls it a historic moment for a Thai company, which is a statement about national pride as much as about capacity.

The target customers are Thailand's so-called new S-curve industries — electric vehicles, digital health, smart agriculture, fintech and digital content — sectors the company says should not have to depend on data infrastructure abroad. Twenty megawatts is a serious facility by regional standards and a modest one next to the campuses being announced in Japan and Malaysia.

What the release does not provide is an anchor tenant, an occupancy figure or a cost. A hyperscale campus is a shell until somebody signs a long lease for the racks inside it, and that signature is the proof a launch cannot supply.
