The Linux Foundation said on Sept. 14 that the Open Secure AI Alliance has joined the organization, giving it a neutral home where groups in AI, cybersecurity and open source can build and share an open defensive stack for securing software and AI agents. The alliance was originally established by NVIDIA in collaboration with members including the Linux Foundation, the foundation said.

According to the foundation, defenses must extend across models and inference, agents and context, identity and policy, enforcement, containment and the underlying infrastructure. The alliance develops open technologies intended to let security leaders inspect how those defenses work, adapt them to their own environments, run them on infrastructure they control and build resilience as models, vendors and infrastructure evolve.

Jim Zemlin, chief executive of the Linux Foundation, said in the release that the move creates a neutral home where industry, researchers and governments can collaborate on open tools, shared standards and evidence-based practices that strengthen security. Justin Boitano, vice president of enterprise AI at NVIDIA, said AI security improves when organizations openly share what they learn, and that the alliance can bring together experts across models, harnesses and infrastructure to turn shared evidence into practical, verifiable defenses.

A core initiative, the Shared AI Findings Exchange, is intended to help organizations learn collectively from AI security incidents by confidentially collecting and analyzing findings, promptly informing affected parties and converting recurring failures into evidence-based controls. Developers, defenders, researchers and organizations are invited to contribute to the proposal by Sept. 21, after which the alliance will work with its members to integrate feedback and move the guidelines forward. The foundation said the alliance's work runs alongside existing Linux Foundation security communities, including the Open Source Security Foundation, and that the alliance is meant to ensure no single vendor controls the end-to-end AI stack by helping enterprises move agentic AI from experimentation into production.

NVIDIA will join the Linux Foundation community at Open Source Summit Europe in Prague on Oct. 7 to speak about building collective defense in the AI era, the release said. It directed readers to https://secureaialliance.org/ for information on the alliance and how to take part.
