LG Display said it has launched a 24.5-inch 720Hz gaming OLED panel, which the company described as the first OLED panel developed specifically for esports. Mass production has begun, and the company said it aims to bring OLED into the mainstream of the esports monitor market.
Esports monitors are typically in the 24-inch class so that players can take in the whole screen at a glance, and at 720Hz the new panel refreshes 720 times a second. Its response time is 0.02ms. The company said the refresh rate is the highest among gaming OLED displays and the response time the fastest.
LG Display said it developed a proprietary algorithm to drive 720Hz stably at FHD resolution, 1920x1080, using a solution that spans panel design and the driving system. It said the refresh rate and response time cut motion blur and ghosting in fast genres such as first-person shooter and racing games. Each pixel emits light on its own rather than depending on a backlight as LCDs do, which the company said gives vivid picture quality.
The panel has first been applied to ASUS's ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace gaming monitor, which has been named the official esports monitor for PGL CS2 Major Singapore 2026.
LG Display said it will step up its push into the esports market and intends to compete with a lineup running from the 20-inch to the 40-inch class, some products carrying its Dynamic Frequency & Resolution technology. It said it is also accelerating AI transformation across gaming display development. Hyeon-woo Lee, head of the Large Display Business Unit, said the company would lead the move to OLED in the gaming monitor market.
