What went live
Highland County and Bath County, Virginia, went live on Caliber Hosted CAD on Tuesday, 6 October, Caliber Public Safety said. Each county keeps its own dispatch center while working from the same underlying hosted platform, the company said. Michael Sturgeon, a senior project manager at Caliber, said two counties sharing one hosted CAD environment is unusual in rural public safety and required coordination between both counties and Caliber's teams.
The two counties
Highland County covers about 416 square miles and has roughly 2,300 residents. Bath County covers more than 500 square miles and has about 4,100 residents. Together the two serve more than 900 square miles of largely forested and mountainous terrain, with a small number of dispatchers and responders on any given shift, the company said.
What each county runs
Highland County, which joined Caliber's CAD customer base with this project, is running hosted CAD with integrated mapping and CJIS query, Google Places address validation and a LinX interface for regional information sharing, and also uses Caliber's Online RMS. Bath County is running hosted CAD with mapping and CJIS query, plus interfaces to PulsePoint and RapidSOS with alerts.
Bath County's migration
Bath County had been a Caliber customer on premise-based CAD and Online RMS for several years, and moved its system onto Hosted CAD as part of the project. Caliber carried out a data conversion to bring historical CAD databases into the new environment. The company said its products are hosted at Nlets and meet FBI CJIS policies, standards and guidelines, with multi-site hot backup disaster recovery and redundant network paths to key state and federal entities.
