GAC takes 8 China-SAE awards, four first prizes

Eight awards, four firsts

GAC collected eight awards at the 2026 China-SAE Science and Technology Award ceremony, held on 28 October in Suzhou, Jiangsu, the company said. Four first prizes went to two projects GAC led and two it participated in, spanning automotive chips, electric drive, vehicle safety, intelligent driving governance and body design. One further GAC-led project took second prize.

The two participated projects covered L2-L4 safety governance and body-in-white design. GAC said the design project's AI-based system generates concept schemes within five hours, predicts stiffness with more than 95% accuracy, lifts design efficiency by more than 30% and has been used on the second-generation GS8, ES9 and All-new S7.

Chips

GAC said its chip project built a full-chain path from vehicle definition through to scale application, working with 105 partners to deploy nearly 400 chip models and more than 1,000 domestic chips. The HYPTEC GT Special Edition, which GAC described as China's first intelligent connected vehicle with 100% domestically designed chips, has been launched.

Electric drive

GAC said it was first to mass-produce amorphous alloy stators and carbon-fibre high-speed rotors, and is the only company mass-producing amorphous alloy automotive motors. The amorphous ribbon is 0.025 mm thick. The motor reaches 99.03% peak efficiency, 17.29 kW/kg power density at 1,000V — nearly three times the industry mainstream — and 30,000 rpm, with system CLTC efficiency of 94.184%. GAC said energy consumption falls 4% and range rises by 30-50 km on an unchanged battery capacity. The motors are used in HYPTEC, AION and AISTALAND models and have been offered to other automakers. The related precision manufacturing technology won the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.

Safety project with Tsinghua

The GAC-led safety project, run with Tsinghua University, took second prize. GAC said it developed China's first ASIL-D fully domestic safety controller, real-time risk quantification, active-suspension side-impact mitigation, a rear-window airbag and a rescue model joining automakers, traffic police and hospitals. The work has been applied to 20 models with cumulative sales of 1.446 million units.
