Sensor and shipping date

Sony Semiconductor Solutions said it will release the LYTIA 720, an image sensor for mobile applications with approximately 50 effective megapixels, intended for the main camera of mobile devices. Mass-production shipments are planned to start in early November 2026, according to the company. The part is a 1/1.56-type stacked CMOS sensor with a diagonal of 10.24 mm.

Noise and dynamic range

Sony said its own low-noise circuit technology, which it calls UHCG, cuts random noise in dark environments by roughly 50% against the LYTIA 700, a 1/1.56-type sensor of about the same pixel count. The company described the low-light performance as the highest available among CMOS image sensors for mobile applications, based on its own research as of the announcement date. HDR compositing using what Sony calls Hybrid Frame-HDR gives the sensor a dynamic range of 100 dB.

Video and positioning

By optimizing its AD conversion circuits, the sensor supports 4K video at 60 frames per second with HDR switched on and all-pixel autofocus, the company said. Sony said the sensor takes in technology developed for its LYTIA high-end series and that it aims to reach more users with it. The company keeps a LYTIA brand site for the mobile image sensor line.
