Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced the MRG-B2100HR, a new addition to the MR-G line, which is the flagship line of the company's G-SHOCK brand of shock-resistant watches. The timepiece has a dimensional latticework dial finished in platinum leaf and is available in a limited edition of 800 pieces worldwide, the company said.
The latticework design is inspired by kigumi, a traditional Japanese construction method and woodworking technique in which wooden joints are made without nails or other metal fittings. Casio said the watch marks 30 years since MR-G debuted in 1996, and that the design takes the theme of haruka, or eternity.
Metal leaf artist Hiroto Rakusho created an original artwork that, together with the timepiece design, brings the world of haruka to life, according to Casio. Each timepiece is adorned with platinum leaf applied by Rakusho, and powdered platinum leaf is used to create depth, giving each one distinct character.
The bezel and bracelet evoke Rakusho's artwork, with metal leaf-inspired textures rendered using structural color technology. Structural color is the appearance of iridescent colors on butterfly wings, minerals and other objects; for this watch it is achieved with an ultrashort-pulse laser, and precision laser processing produces colors that change with the viewing angle. The bezel is formed from 27 components, each polished before assembly, and the bezel and bracelet use the super-hard alloys COBARION, manufactured exclusively by Eiwa Co., Ltd., and DAT55G respectively. Casio said the finishes and materials deliver both metallic beauty and toughness.
