Binance said that eligible Binance Pay users visiting Japan from overseas can now pay at merchants that accept PayPay, through the HIVEX framework. The service is available from September 30, 2026, the company said.
About 48 million eligible Binance Pay users across more than 100 countries and regions can use it at millions of merchant locations in Japan, according to the announcement. Merchants that accept PayPay continue to receive settlement in Japanese yen, the company said.
Binance said the launch is aimed at travelers and covers spending on dining, shopping, accommodation and other travel-related purchases. Thomas Gregory, the company's vice president of payments and fiat, said Japan is shaping the future of connected cashless payments and that the integration reflects a shared aim of making payments more seamless, borderless and accessible for visitors. He said it also reflects a growing convergence of traditional fiat payment systems and digital assets, and that it gives travelers more ways to pay while helping PayPay-supported merchants in Japan serve international customers.
The release describes HIVEX, developed by TBCASoft, as a federated payment framework built to let payment ecosystems interoperate while participants keep their own governance, compliance structures and commercial relationships.
