NTL Healthcare proposes AI cervical screening tie-up in Pretoria

NTL HEALTHCARE presented its AI cervical screening system at the 2026 Korea-South Africa Future Dialogue in Pretoria and proposed healthcare cooperation between the two countries, the company said. The Dialogue was co-hosted by the Korean Embassy and the Korea-Africa Foundation and focused on AI for public health.

The numbers behind the system

CerviCARE AI runs on the device and works offline, analysing images in approximately five seconds, according to the release. NTL said its cervical screening work dates to 1996 and covers more than eight million cases, and that a 2024 Scientific Reports study reported 98% sensitivity for high-grade lesions.

What the company is proposing

Executive Vice President Dr. Jake Byun set out the system in a presentation on AI cervical cancer diagnostics for South Africa. He said it could support assessment, referral, treatment and follow-up after a positive HPV result, without replacing HPV testing or clinical judgment. NTL proposed local clinical validation, hospital pilots and discussions with South African authorities on regulatory and commercialisation pathways, and Byun said building local evidence with healthcare professionals was essential to sustainable adoption.

Where it is already supplied

NTL supplies CerviCARE AI in more than 20 countries. After commercialisation in Paraguay, it plans to expand its Latin American healthcare and distribution network, entering markets in phases according to local regulations and needs. The company said African universities, hospitals and healthcare companies interested in cooperation can reach it at [email protected].
