RD Technologies puts Ghana-Asia at centre of payments upgrade

The Hong Kong-based financial technology group is broadening cross-border payment channels and will support a dollar stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank.

Payments upgrade

Hong Kong-based RD Technologies announced an upgrade to its enterprise cross-border payments and digital finance ecosystem, with an initial focus on trade between Africa and Asia, the company said. The upgrade covers banking partnerships, payment channel connectivity and digital asset settlement infrastructure for cross-border payments, foreign exchange and treasury management.

Stanbic Bank Ghana

RD Technologies said it would work with Stanbic Bank Ghana to explore a cross-border trade settlement arrangement led by a bank, with stablecoin technology underpinning it. The first focus is payments between Ghanaian companies and their suppliers in Asia for legitimate business-to-business trade. Technical checks and any limited pilot would go ahead only if regulators give the required no-objection.

Transika model

RD Technologies is working with Transika, a Ghana-based digital asset infrastructure provider, to explore a cross-border settlement model for business trade payments between Ghana and Asia. Under the proposal, Transika's local payment capability would be paired with RD Technologies' cross-border settlement infrastructure, and the two would also assess stablecoins' fit for the model. Pilot or live transactions would need the necessary regulatory approvals and agreed operating conditions between the parties, RD Technologies said.

RDUSD stablecoin

RD Technologies said it would support the RDUSD brand and broaden the applications that can use the US dollar stablecoin, adding a digital dollar settlement option to its ecosystem. RDUSD will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., which the release calls America's first federally regulated digital asset bank; it is intended to meet the US GENIUS Act framework, is tied one-to-one to the US dollar and will face third-party audits. Under its cooperation with HashKey On-Chain, RDUSD is to be deployed on HSK Chain; the companies will look at stablecoins' long-term role in cross-border payments, treasury management and tokenizing real-world assets. The release's notice states that RDUSD is not licensed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and is available only to Professional Investors in Hong Kong.
