Midmark RTLS staff duress tool joins Epic Toolbox for 2026

Midmark RTLS announced that CareFlow RTLS Staff Duress has joined the Epic Toolbox in the Staff Duress category for 2026, expanding its range of Epic-integrated workflow products. The product is designed to bring real-time, location-aware staff duress alerts into the clinical workflows caregivers already use, the company said.

CareFlow Staff Duress integrates with Epic through HL7 FHIR-based APIs. When a caregiver presses a button on a Midmark RTLS badge, Epic receives that staff member's identity and real-time location and then notifies designated security response and informational groups through its push notification framework, according to Midmark RTLS. Responders can also acknowledge or decline alerts inside Epic. The company said the setup is intended to help security teams respond more quickly during workplace violence events.

Midmark RTLS said the tool works with the same RTLS badges many caregivers already wear for workflow automation and clinical communication, so no extra devices are required. It supports Bluetooth Low Energy, infrared and hybrid RTLS deployments, which the company said allows healthcare organizations to draw on existing RTLS investments, start with BLE, or take a hybrid approach where more location certainty is needed.

HT Snowday, a senior director at Midmark RTLS, said protecting caregivers takes more than a panic button and requires connected technology that delivers the right information to the right people at the right time. He said the Epic Toolbox listing helps healthcare organizations fold staff safety into the workflows caregivers already use.

Midmark RTLS said the first CareFlow RTLS integration with Epic was deployed in 2012, and that it has since widened its Epic integrations to cover real-time location visibility, patient flow, workflow automation and now staff safety. The company pointed readers to the Staff Duress category in the Epic Showroom for more information. Midmark RTLS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Midmark Corporation, and the company said more than 1,100 hospitals, clinics and oncology centers have used its technology since 1988.
