Hoymiles has launched the HoyUltra 2000M, a commercial and industrial energy storage system that the company said puts the battery, power conversion system, thermal management, static transfer switch and fire protection into a single unit. The company said the design is meant to move more work into the factory so that less is needed at the project site.
Hoymiles said the system occupies roughly 15 per cent less space than a conventional arrangement of 10 storage containers in parallel, and requires fewer items of external equipment and less on-site wiring. Based on the company's estimates, on-site work falls from 46 hours to 10 hours.
The unit offers capacity of up to 2.61 MWh and AC voltage classes of 400V, 690V and 800V. It can be combined with PV and diesel generators, and the company lists PV plus wind among the multi-energy applications it is intended for. A built-in static transfer switch supports backup switching in under 20 milliseconds.
Liquid cooling is used for both the power conversion system and the battery, over an operating temperature range of -30°C to 55°C, and the system holds rated power output at up to 50°C, the company said. Protection at cabinet level includes smoke and temperature detection, fire suppression, interlocked ventilation and compartment explosion relief.
Dr. Rex Zhu, general manager of Hoymiles' residential and C&I storage business unit, said clients now need more than storage capacity as projects become more varied, pointing to electrical conditions, installation requirements, multi-energy integration, backup power and operating environments as factors that have to be taken into account.
