GAC Cambodia KD plant begins production in Kampong Chhnang

The GAC Cambodia KD plant was inaugurated in Kampong Chhnang Province on Sept. 17, and the THAM assembly plant for GAC vehicles was launched at the ceremony, the company said. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin attended, along with Jiang Xiuyun, deputy general manager of GAC Group, Wang Shunsheng, deputy general manager of GAC International and president of its Southeast Asia Regional Center, and leadership from TH Group, GAC's strategic partner in Cambodia.

Hun Manet said the start of production was an achievement for the Royal Government of Cambodia's industrial transformation, helping the country move from labor-intensive industries to sectors driven by capital, advanced technology and high skills, developing local industry, raising value added in the national economy and creating new sources of economic growth.

Under the project, TH Group invests in and builds the plant and assembles vehicles, while GAC supplies knocked-down (CKD) kits, technical standards and technical support across the chain. The plant has a designed annual capacity of about 10,000 units. Work on the project was fully launched in 2024, and preparatory and construction work has now been completed ahead of production.

The company said the TRUMPCHI brand has expanded quickly in Cambodia since 2024, recording an average annual compound growth rate of more than 300% over the past three years and ranking first among Chinese automotive brands in the country in 2025.

GAC said that over seven years in Cambodia its work has ranged from channel development and product rollout to brand building and manufacturing upgrading, and that it has shared development opportunities with Cambodians through capacity, employment and technology.
