What Evident announced
Evident announced the Pramana POD, a benchtop whole slide imaging scanner, on 17 October 2026. The system is intended for small and medium-sized laboratories and for specialty applications within larger institutions, and is meant to make digital pathology adoption more accessible, the company said.
How the imaging works
Evident said the scanner automates imaging with a tissue finder, label detection, and automated selection of focal plane and scan profile. Built-in image-quality assessment is designed to produce pathologist-ready images and to flag scans that may need further review. Volumetric imaging captures multiple focal planes so that sharp focal information can be chosen across the scanned area.
Throughput and specimen types
Evident puts throughput at 25 slides per hour with true 40X imaging under defined conditions. The company said the Pramana series suits most brightfield imaging applications, including histopathology, core biopsies, hematology, cytology and microbiology.
Research use only
The scanner is designated for research use only and not for diagnostic procedures. Future clinical availability is subject to applicable regulatory authorisation, and regulatory status and availability may vary by country, according to the announcement. Prasanth Perugupalli, Evident's vice president of digital pathology, said laboratory infrastructure changes slowly, and that small and medium-sized labs can build as their needs evolve.
