Sime Darby to build more data centers for Google in Malaysia

Sime Darby Property is building more data centers in Malaysia for Alphabet’s Google as it accelerates its expansion plans in Southeast Asia.

Pearl Computer Malaysia has signed an agreement with Sime Darby to build more data centers on a 77-acre site within the 1,500-acre Elmina Business Park in Sime Darby, Selangor, northwest of Kuala Lumpur.

Azmir Merican, managing director of Sime Darby Property, said in a statement: “This agreement reflects Sime Darby Property’s ability to deliver, own and lease data centers that meet the needs of the global digital economy. “

The additional facilities will be built adjacent to Sime Darby Property’s 1.7 billion ringgit ($390 million) data center on 49 acres of land at Elmina Business, which is wholly owned by Google’s Singapore subsidiary Raiden APAC Subsidiary PearlComputing builds parks. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Google has been increasing investment in Southeast Asia, joining other global technology giants. In September, it committed $1 billion to build cloud computing facilities in Thailand, in addition to the $2 billion earmarked for the Malaysian project.

“These data centers are located in Elmina Business Park, enhancing Selangor’s attractiveness as a key digital hub in Malaysia, driven by Selangor’s well-developed infrastructure, business-friendly policies and collaborative efforts of the authorities.”

Sime Darby Property is developing the infrastructure required for Google’s additional data center, which is expected to be completed in 2027. Rent two other 5-seat data centers.
