Manila – Several universities across the country expressed support for participating in the anti-corruption protests on September 21, the “One Trillion Peso March”, to the Epifanio de Los Santos (EDSA) Monument to the People’s Powers of Quezon City.
The protests organized by church leaders were triggered by recent allegations of abnormal flood control projects, which reportedly cost $1.9 trillion over the last 15 years.
On September 21, the event also dates with former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Here are the universities and student governments urging their voters to participate in mass protests:
Adamson University

University of Arrelano
- The Supreme Student Union of the University of Arrelano has supported the beginning of anti-corruption protests in a statement from the Philippines: “Assessing a trillion pesos is not a minority of battles. It is a call for the entire country, especially for young people who have mastered the future of the country.”
University of Manila Ateneo De
- The university invites all Ateneo students, faculty and alumni to participate in the protests to hold a meeting at the University of Manila Zen Garden on the Loyola Heights campus
University of De La Salle
- Lasallians will participate from La Sale Green Hills to EDSA People Power Monument.
Dela Sal Korge of Saint-Bernielde
- The participating Benildes will also participate in the parade from LSGH to the EDSA monument.
Institute of Church and Culture in Asia (ISACC)
- ISACC is one of three universities participating in the multi-million pesos parade.
Mindanao State University (MSU)
- MSU’s Marawi Supreme Student Government announced its intention to join the protests on September 21.
Institute of Women and Gender Studies, Miriam University
- Miriam College is listed as a university expected to join the protests.

- “Several student unions (SCs) from Pamantasan ng Lungsod Ng Maynila (PLM) will join the trillion-peso march against corruption,” the institute’s student publication said.

To fight corruption, the ingredients of St. La Salle Bacolod University are encouraged to wear black or white, “to mark the 53rd anniversary of the martial law period and to uphold our commitment to truth and justice,” the university said.
Elizabeth Seton School will also support the trillion-peso march, stating that “unity with the Filipino people is affirmed in the call to end government corruption.”
Francis Aquino Dee, spokesman for the protest, predicted that the EDSA monument, led by church leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, lawmakers and former government officials, would have about 15,000 participants.
Another rally will be held at Lunata Park on the morning of September 21, and some of its members are expected to be held at EDSA Rally.
Bishop Colin Bagafora said attendees were encouraged to wear white “as a symbol of solidarity and hope.”
