New Delhi – President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as Vice President BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who served as chairman at Rajya Sabha, he announced on Tuesday.

Tiwari told the House of Lords that the notice from the Ministry of Home Affairs conveyed the resignation of India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and that the 67a of the Constitution came into effect immediately.

Dhankhar, 74, reasoned that it was health reasons. In a resignation letter to the President, Dhankhar said: “In order to determine health care and comply with medical advice, I hereby resign from the Vice President of India and will immediately come into force under Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

During his tenure, he shared President Moormu’s “unwavering support and a wonderful and soothing working relationship”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to Dhankhar’s resignation, hoping that he would be healthy, noting that Dhankhar has many opportunities to serve the country with all abilities and wish him good health.

Modi wrote on X: “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has many opportunities to serve our country in various identities, including as Vice President of India. Wish him health,” Modi wrote on X.

Meanwhile, the opposition sparked the decision of Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, and the Congressional Party claimed there was more eyes.

“It is shocking that the sudden resignation of the Vice President and the President of Rajya Sabha is unimaginable. Until about 5pm tonight, I was with him and several other MPs. At 7:30pm, I spoke with him on a phone call. There is no doubt that Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar is in poor health. Congress leader Ramesh said.

With Dhankhar’s resignation now accepted, the BJP-led NDA is expected to announce a candidate for its vice presidential position soon.

According to the Constitution, elections for the vice president must be held “as soon as possible”.
