Applications from the United States, Canada and Singapore will be processed within two months.

The New Zealand Medical Council has announced new measures to speed up the registration process for training doctors overseas who are trying to practice in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Key changes include fast track registration for general practitioners (GPS) from the United States, Canada and Singapore. Applications for temporary occupational registration will be processed within two months.

Meanwhile, physicians with clinical experience in Chile, Luxembourg and the Republic of Croatia will be eligible to apply for temporary general registration through the “comparable health system” route.

The move comes after Japan and South Korea were included on the list in February last year.

Fast track registration pathways have also been established for qualified experts from the UK, Ireland and Australia.

This accelerates registration in the fields of anesthesia, dermatology, emergency medicine, general medicine, internal medicine, pathology and psychiatry.

In addition, temporary career registration pathways for experts from other countries are now processed within three months.
