Women who wish to use the new center can self-consult through the Dongdu Health Services website.

Australia’s first midwife-led public hospital maternity service, a $2.6 million maternity service, jointly opened by Prime Minister Roger Cook and Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson .

Bentley Hospital’s Midwifery Birth Center, led and staffed by certified and accredited midwives, will provide new birth options for women in the Eastern Metropolitan Health Services (EMHS) region.

The center will serve low-risk pregnant women and will feature two birthing rooms, each with a large birthing pool, consultation rooms, family rooms and a midwifery center.

Accredited midwives can order exams and ultrasounds related to pregnancy, birth and the neonatal period, prescribe medications, and refer patients to obstetricians and paediatricians as needed.

Unlike traditional obstetrics and gynecology hospitals, women who wish to use the new center can self-consult through the EMHS website.
