kathmandu – President Ramchandra Paudel underwent successful prostate surgery at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday and was admitted to the hospital for treatment that morning.

According to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital, Podel’s health is normal after the surgery.

“[The President’s] Removal of the prostate using bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP),” the announcement reads. Bipolar TURP surgery is considered the “gold standard” for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treatment.

“The president will be under observation for 48 hours, which is the normal procedure,” said Dr. Ghanshyam Gurung, the hospital’s acting executive director. “The surgery is planned.”

Podell has suffered from prostate problems for years and has been taking medication for the past six months.

Doctors say prostate problems are a common problem among men as most men develop them after reaching a certain age.

Powder has been hospitalized several times since taking office about 20 months ago.

The 80-year-old president was admitted to the hospital on June 17 last year due to chest-related complications.

In the same month, he was admitted to Gangalal Hospital complaining of chest pain. Later, he was admitted to Manmohan Cardiovascular and Transplantation Center for the same reason.

On June 20, he underwent heart surgery to permanently implant a heart rhythm regulator.

In April last year, the president was hospitalized twice due to abdominal pain and shortness of breath.

He was also flown to India on April 19 last year and received treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi for 11 days.
