Agartala – Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Left parties of making Tripura “backward” during their 35-year rule and praised the BJP government for what it has brought to the state since taking power in 2018 progress.

Addressing a public meeting on Sunday after visiting the restored Buru tribal village, Shah contrasted the communist era with the BJP’s development agenda.

“For 35 years, the Communist Party ruled Tripura, claiming to work for the welfare of the poor, but the people remained poor. It was only after the BJP came to power that the state started seeing real development. Under Left rule, only 2.5% of the population Piped drinking water is available; Shah said that number has risen to 85% today.

He added that measures such as free food distribution, universal health coverage up to Rs 5 lakh per family and access to electricity and LPG have transformed the lives of the people of Tripura.

Shah also highlighted the significant progress in education, noting that the dropout rate is now less than 3% and the enrollment rate is 99% compared to the dismal figures during the communist regime. He noted that the state is now peaceful and the insurgent groups have signed a peace agreement, paving the way for stability and growth. “With the blessings of Maa Tripurasundari, Tripura will soon be among the most developed states in the country,” he said. The BJP’s development model and resolution of long-standing issues such as Bulu’s rehabilitation have opened a new chapter for the northeastern state.
