NHG Health expands access to diabetic foot and eye screenings

This provides an effort to strengthen early detection and management efforts.

NHG Health has expanded its existing program to allow diabetic people to access Diabetic Foot Screening (DFS) and Diabetic Retinophotography (DRP) services near them.

NHG Health said in a statement that this is implemented through its Population Health Campus, which works with the Central North Primary Health Network (CN-PCN) and community partners.

It added: “This initiative is part of NHG Health’s broader effort as regional health managers in central and northern Singapore.”

There are about 1,500 diabetes-related lower limb amputations in Singapore, an average of four per day. Diabetes is also the main cause of blindness in urban countries, with the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy of diabetic retinopathy being 33.9%.

“Early screening for diabetic foot and eye complications is key to timely intervention and prevents serious problems such as lower limb amputation and diabetic retinopathy.” said Karen Ng, director of the Central North Primary Medical Network, NHG Health, NHG Health and CEO of NHG Multi-killer.

Ng added: “By working with GPS at our Central North Primary Care Network and active Aging Center, we bring such screenings closer to the community with the convenience of patients.”

The program, launched in November 2023, aims to increase patient access and general practitioners’ operational efficiency, enabling them to provide patients with preventive care and interventions.

More than 700 patients with diabetes benefit from one-stop screening services, with 92 CN-PCN GP clinics refer patients to 12 screening sites, including Active Aging Centers (AACs), Community Centers (CCs), and Resident Networks (RNs).
