Seoul – With the Constitutional Court’s ruling on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment, its measures took longer than expected, including Nobel Loareate Han Kang, who publicly called for his removal on Tuesday.
“I believe in the values of life, freedom and peace, and we must never compromise. The withdrawal is about maintaining universal values,” Han said in a written statement.
Han is one of 414 famous authors who joined the call with each writing statement. They include novelists Eun Hee-kyung, Kim Yeon-Su, Kim Cho-Yeop, Kim Ho-Yeon and Park Sang-Young; poets Kim Hyesoon, Kim Sain, Oun and Hwang in-chan; and literary critic Shin Hyoung-Cheol.
Novelist Jung Bo-Ra declared: “I want to live in a democratic world.” Novelist Eun Hee-kyung demanded: “Punish the rebellious leaders and build an equal society, while literary critic Oh You-Kyung wrote: “Delaying justice is not justice.”
On Tuesday afternoon, the Korean Writers Association gathered in front of the protest camp at Gwanghwamun in central South Korea and issued an emergency declaration signed by 2,487 literary figures across the country.
The announcement stressed that “the delay in the Constitutional Court’s ruling has exacerbated social conflicts and allowed the riots to gain traction on the just grounds of “resistance”, and the psychological tensions now threaten serious confrontation. Political unrest has had a serious impact on the economy, thus causing more and more economics, and increasingly causing more and more speeches, and more and more victories. International censorship.”
“There is therefore a urgent need to make a quick impropriety ruling from the Constitutional Court to resolve our family crisis and repair the loss of international reputation,” the statement added.
The Korean Writers Association was founded in 1974 and was originally known as the “Council of Freedom and Practical Writers” and was established by writers who advocate democracy, freedom of speech and human rights. It adopted its current name in 1987.
Since March 11, the poet Song Wang Wak’s secretary-general Kyung-dong called on Yoon to impeach each other on March 11 after his health deteriorated rapidly.
