Mongolian MP alleges political interference in late-night detention of independent media company employees

Ulaanbaatar – The Standing Committee of the Justice convened a discussion on late-night detention and trial of the creators of the “Noorog” content. During the meeting, MP Ch.lodoisambuu expressed strong criticism of the police and accused of political interference.

“It is obvious from the response of the police legal department head that the state is manipulating the narrative. Only one person from ‘noorog’ is detained, not three. So why do you provide misleading information about these three?” he asked.

Ch.lodoisambuu speaks based on his experience as a journalist and claims that he has also been detained for expressing his opinions. “I wanted to see videos created by these young people. Then their computers were confiscated. However, the public anger was so strong that the police did not expect what a well-known “Noorog” it was actually.”

He accused the authorities of acting under political pressure. He asserted: “The police tried to fulfill the orders of the Prime Minister’s family. Later, it turned out that one of the members was involved in online gambling. But what is the direction now?

Ch.lodoisambuu further criticized the long-term political practice of suppressing dissent. “This is nothing new. When Kh.nyambaatar was attorney general, he had planned and planned detention under the leadership of Minister B. Enkhbayar. The ‘tradition’ continued. Will the current minister terminate this? It’s been five days? Why haven’t the equipment he led has been back? How long does it take to copy the documents?”

He praised Chairman D.Tsogtbaatar for organizing the discussion, highlighting the growing disconnect between the government and the people. “The leaders of this country are not seen outside the internet. They can only see society as being on the internet. These are the people who lead us.”

Ch.lodoisambuu also raises concerns about corruption within law enforcement. “Who appointed the chief of police? According to the Prime Minister’s proposal, is the parliament? Just yesterday, a man went online, revealing that 9 billion people in MNT have been deposited into an account. He claimed that a policeman received 75 million bribes per month and suffered bribes per month. Such a large-scale case cannot be litigated in law enforcement.
